A Room With A View

BG Restaurant is one of the most elegant spots to meet for lunch or an early cocktail in the City.  It’s discreetly ensconced on the 7th Floor of the Bergdorf Goodman Department Store so remains unknown to many.  It somehow just exudes glamour with its white tablecloths, sophisticated menu and beautiful decor.

The views are out of this world with a vista that sweeps Central Park just above the tree line.   The room is bright and happy and the staff wonderfully attentive.  It goes without saying that the crowd is powerful and well-heeled and marvellous to look at.  But it’s not about the crowd, it’s about the view.

It’s a perfect place to meet friends for a traditional afternoon tea of sandwiches and scones with devonshire cream.  We especially like sneaking in for a Martini and a tiny snack to watch the sunset over Central Park.

Well-appointed and bright, the drawing-room atmosphere is an intimate setting for lunch, tea or an early dinner.

The menu caters for those uptown types who watch their weight with dishes like Roasted Beet & Fennel Salad or Crostade of Spring Vegetables.  For power brokers who need a hearty meal there’s the Lobster Mac & Cheese or a Composed Lamb Salad.

The best table to grab is in the bar area by the window in the enormous high-backed yellow leather chairs with a billion dollar view of the park. On your way out don’t forget to spend some time gazing at the gallery in the hallway.  It’s filled with the wonderful snaps of the various super stars who frequent Bergdorf Goodman taken by the likes of Patrick McMullan.  There’s no other way to say it, than this joint is New York at it’s finest.
